Jim Finnerty joined NRP in 2019 as Vice President of Tax.

In this role, he is responsible for all facets of income tax planning and compliance as it relates to THE NRP Group of entities and real estate investment partnerships. Finnerty oversees all tax department activities including preparation of quarterly reporting packages for delivery to our private equity investors, providing quarterly taxable income projections to our principals and various employee groups, and review of sales transactions to assist in calculating after tax sales proceeds. He leads the department in managing audits of NRP entities by federal and state taxing authorities and has recently embarked on a strategic review of the tax profile of the organization to identify and deliver value added tax planning opportunities for the Company.

Prior to joining NRP, Finnerty spent thirteen years with Forest City Enterprises Inc./Forest City Realty Trust, an $8 billion NYSE listed real estate operating company located in Cleveland.  As Senior Vice President of Tax, he led a team of 20 people responsible for tax planning, compliance, SEC reporting and real property taxes for the parent company, its affiliates, and joint ventures. In 2015, he co-led a team of internal associates and external advisors as we converted Forest City into a real estate investment trust.  Prior to Forest City, Finnerty spent twenty-three years with KPMG LLP as a member of the Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction tax practice in both Chicago, IL and Tysons Corner, VA.

Outside of work, Finnerty is a certified official for both USA Swimming and the NCAA. He enjoys spending time with his wife and five children in downtown Cleveland.

Finnerty is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed in Illinois and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Tax Executives Institute. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science in Taxation from DePaul University.
